How would you feel about buying a counterfeit drug? Millions of motorcyclists are lured daily with fake protective gear, international standards are clear in differentiating motorcyclists’ personal protective gear from ordinary clothing. An antifriction suit is NOT a protective element, it is a macabre invention of the market to scam motorcyclists by selling them false promises of safety, antifriction capacity is only one of the many properties that a motorcyclist suit must fulfill.
Motorcyclist protection gear, is regulated by international standards that evaluate the performance of these devices by measuring the force transmitted to the person in the event of a collision.
In the following chart we can observe how the impact tests of the certification processes work:
The European standard EN 1621, establishes the procedures to qualify the level of energy absorption of the protective clothing for motorcycle riders, in this standard a mass with an area of 15 cm2, is dropped from a height of approximately one meter, which impacts the protector simulating the blows received in case of accident, the sensors measure how much force is transmitted through the protector determining the residual force of each impact which indicates the amount of energy transmitted through the protector and received by the user.
The standard also includes other factors such as temperature stability and coverage area, among others.
It is important to differentiate fake motorcycle clothing from certified personal protective equipment by making the product traceable. We cannot simply rely on what the seller tells us, nor can we rely on the information provided by a tag, these are easily falsified, it is necessary to go to the manufacturer’s website where we can verify that the protective element really has the certifications that the product states. It is important to point out that in the market we find non-certified protection elements, such as “Bodyarmours” which have been designed for sports like motocross and enduro, where falls are at low speeds and low energy levels, contrary to what happens in street motorcycling.
These are some brands of responsible manufacturers who have their own research and development laboratories and whose protection elements are properly certified with international standards:

DON’T BE FOOLED BY COUNTERFEIT PROTECTION ELEMENTS, USE ONLY CERTIFIED PROTECTION ELEMENTS… IT’S YOUR LIFE AT STAKE!
If you want to broaden this information and your knowledge, we have made our Virtual Program of Professionalization for Motorcyclists totally free (for the time of quarantine) in which you will be able to learn how to increase the probability of coming out unharmed from a fall, skills and abilities from the hand of Xavi Vallejo (director of Motoescuela, Spain), to understand how to choose and how to buy certified protective elements and to evaluate the motorcycles by their technological capacity
The course consists of four modules: basic road safety concepts, certified, personal protective equipment, safe vehicles and driving techniques.
